Part 163: Episode 5, Final Day, Trial Latter 2: Phase Three

This picture is the key, as I explained when we first got it. (Interesting note: We did get a fourth page of evidence when we got that picture.)

And what exactly is this supposed to be...?
Sound: Realization

This is the picture Ms. Skye took.

Take a good look at it.

Sound: Wipe

Yes... His shirt is showing underneath.
Sound: Light Bulb

Oh! But that piece of cloth...
Sound: Light Bulb

Sound: Wipe

Sound: Realization

quote:

Nothing else will work here:

Music: Silence

Oh ho ho ho!
Sound: Damage 2 + Clapping
Sound: Whack

It's fun watching you squirm, Wrighto!
Sound: Light Bulb

This piece of evidence does indeed seem to

contradict something...

Your outward appearance of mental sanity!!!
Sound: Whack
Sound: Damage 2

The judge is getting salty with that penalty.

Music: Suspense

(What am I doing!?)
Sound: Stab

(If this cloth was cut from Prosecutor Marshall's vest after he died...)

(Then something's definitely not right about it!)

It's too late to turn back now.

You're the only one who can put an end to this, Wright!

(Chief Gant, your tyrannical reign ends here!)

Behold! The piece of evidence that contradicts this cloth!

And we're back at the evidence list!

Music: Silence

Since Ema Skye's fingerprints are on this cloth,

there's no doubt that she shoved the prosecutor aside!

Sound: Desk Slam

However!

Sound: Drama Pound
Sound: Objection

Music: Pressing Pursuit - Cornered

No! Th-this is nonsense!
Sound: Stab

Now then, Chief Gant.

Let me ask you something.

Prosecutor Marshall was not impaled when he was shoved aside.

If so, then tell me.

Who could it have been?

Who could have arrived at the scene before Ms. Lana Skye,

Sound: Objection

Hnnngngghgghh...

Sound: Realization

A jar that they then broke on purpose, to leave behind a clue,

Sound: Desk Slam

Sound: Objection

...

Remember what you admitted only moments ago?

Ironic, isn't it?

Through the very act of creating "insurance,"

Music: Silence

Sound: Damage 2 + Drama Pound

Sound: Damage 2
Sound: Objection

Phase 3 complete!

(It's finally all over...)

Sound: Drama Pound

Sound: Shock 2 x 3

Sound: Wipe

Sound: Drama Pound

One last gasp for Gant? What an interesting new sprite. Reminds me a lot of our first real villain, when we had him on the ropes:

Heh...

Heh heh heh!

Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho!
Sound: Damage 2 + Clapping

Music: Pressing Pursuit - Cornered - Variation

Sound: Damage 2
Sound: Whack

It feels a lot like Redd White's last gasp did, too. I don't think we'll have to rely on ghost-Mia reading out a list of names for this one, though.

!

Sound: Whack x 2

What do you mean, you "refute" his allegations?
Sound: Realization

Sound: Objection

Sound: Gallery

Sound: Gavel

Order! Order!

What nonsense is this!?
Sound: Whack

Another parallel to Mia's murder, with us stealing the wiretap out of Redd White's hotel room drawer. No one was particularly concerned about how we got that one back then.

Remember, Udgey?

Sound: Wipe

Oh look, another unnecessary flashback to something that happened just a few minutes ago.

You do have some conclusive evidence, don't you?
Sound: Drama Pound

...

Sound: Realization

Ah well, at least it was short this time. So the argument is because we refused to present it initially, we can't use it later? Seems like another conveniently made-up rule...

Well, that's true...
Sound: Light Bulb

The defense did refuse to present evidence!

Sound: Objection

Funny how you had no problem with it being illegal evidence when you thought it would prove that Ema was the killer.

But that's not fair...!
Sound: Stab 2

Sound: Whack x 2

Music: Silence

It looks like the last laugh's on you, son!
Sound: Objection

Sound: Gallery

Sound: Gavel

I'm afraid Mr. Gant's claim is legally correct.

Well, Mr. Edgeworth?

There's an interesting disinction being made here. Are we trying to convict Gant here? I thought we were more just proving that someone else did it to get our own client off the hook, but maybe these trials have been resulting in direct convictions of the actual killers rather than them getting their own trials? Or is the point that if we can't use the evidence to convict Gant in his own trial, we can't use it to prove Lana's innocence in this trial?

assuming, of course, that the evidence is indeed illegal.
Sound: Realization

Hmm?

Well, Mr. Wright?

...

Music: Suspense

(It seems... at last...)

Sound: Wipe

Sure, this was your plan all along...

Mr. Wright.

Do you admit to it?

Tricky wording here. We did conceal the cloth on purpose, but did we do so illegally? I don't think so.

I admit I refused to present it at one point.

quote:

If we say "I did" instead...

(No! If I admit to that...)

(all my planning will have been for nothing!)
Sound: Stab

It seems...

Mr. Wright didn't understand the implication of his conduct.
Sound: Damage 2

There's that penalty.

If you're going to change your position,

this is your only chance, Wright!

(He's right...)

I admit I refused to present it at one point.

From there, we continue the same as the other option, which just skips the penalty and the scene associated with it.

Sound: Damage 2
Sound: Drama Pound

No it isn't, Mr. Gant.
Sound: Realization

Huh?
Sound: Light Bulb

It's not that I "didn't" present evidence then...

Sound: Realization

What do you mean, you "couldn't"?

Sound: Desk Slam

Oh here we go.

No, Udgey! Don't listen to his lies!
Sound: Damage 2
Sound: Whack

Sound: Whack
Sound: Drama Pound

There is only one issue left

to be resolved in this trial:

Sound: Realization

Sound: Gavel

Very well.

Let us settle this once and for all.

Earlier you refused to present evidence.

Everything hinges on this moment. What proof should we present?
